My approach to counselling is integrative which means that I am informed by the humanistic, psychodynamic and transpersonal schools of thought. As I use all three of these philosophies in my work I am therefore known as an integrative counsellor.
However it is perhaps more important to explain in more general terms the way in which I work. In essence my aim is to offer you a safe, supportive and confidential space where together we can explore the issues or difficulties that you are experiencing. Given that you are a unique person then it follows that the counselling will be attuned to your own individual needs.
I offer you the space and time to be listened to and in addition I offer you feedback on what I observe and any patterns of behaviour or thought processes that might be hindering you. This feedback can be helpful and give you some insights about yourself and how sometimes experiences from your past may be affecting you today. Together we will look at ways to facilitate change. Counselling can also help if you are seeking more meaning and direction in your life.
I believe in a holistic approach and that counselling can have a beneficial effect on the body’s physical health as well as helping cognitively and emotionally. Counselling can help you understand your inner world and this can be a difficult process at times but the improved self-awareness can be enlightening and sometimes even humorous!
The counselling I offer can be long or shorter term depending on your needs. As well as a background in psychology I am also a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I am a member of the BACP and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
